This 220-page 9” x 6” book has eight chapters and is written by eight specialists who are well-versed in the issues that were chosen for inclusion in it. The Introduction is penned by Dr. Inyang Ukot and provides the background and summary of the entire book. Chapter 1 is an Overview written by Dr. Osahon Enabulele, the President of World Medical Association. Chapter 2 addresses Efficient Human Resources Management in Hospitals, and is the work of Dr. John E. Opute, Associate Professor of Human Resources Management at London South Bank University, England. Chapter 3 dwells on Considerations for Management of Health Facilities and is ably written by Professor Godfrey O. Udo, Professor of Estate Management at the University of Uyo, Nigeria. Chapter 4, on Getting the Best Out of Nursing Personnel, is authored by Professor Eme Ukot, Professor of Nursing and CEO of Tranador Health, USA. These form Part I of the book.
Part II consists of four Chapters on the following hospitals: Bowen University Teaching Hospital written by Dr. OmoOlorun G. Olupona the Chief Medical Director; University of Uyo Teaching Hospital penned by Dr. Emmanuel K. Abudu, the hospital’s Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee and Associate Professor of Pathology at the University of Uyo, Nigeria; Mother and Child Hospital, the account of this private hospital being documented by Dr. Raphael S. Olarewaju, Consultant Obstetrician/Gynecologist and pioneer Medical Director/CEO of the hospital; and RST Clinics Ltd. the story of which is written by Dr. Inyang Ukot, the company’s Medical Director.
In these eight chapters are encapsulated typical experiences in hospitals in developing countries and from which lessons are learnt and solutions proferred for identified challenges.
